Modern House Plan Designs from NelsonDesignGroup.com
With growing stress in modern lifestyle, people want to build their home, especially a retirement home, as a place where they can enjoy nature with their friends and family. But mountain regions have a complex and varied environment. Differences in slope, elevation etc. leads to extremely dry conditions at some places while in some mountain regions, the annual rainfall exceeds 95 inches. Building or buying a property in such regions requires careful planning.
The location of your land is very important. Make sure that your land is easily accessible by vehicles. This will allow you to easily transport materials and other stuff easily to and from your house. The elevation of your house can also affect your house plans. It determines the wind zone, which relates to design-pressure requirements in windows and doors.
Certain types of soils are unsuitable for home construction. Some clay soils will expand as they absorb water and contract as they dry. This shrinking and swelling of the soil exerts great stress upon the foundation of a house. The house’s foundation may crack severely unless it is specifically designed to tolerate such stress.
Mountain regions are also susceptible to forest fires. So it is best to choose a fire resistant design and planning. Also ensure that there is enough supply of drinking water. At some places the wells might have to be dug too deep to find a drop of water. Even then, you need to test the quality of water before deciding to use it.
Sewage treatment and disposal and a good septic system should also be given high priority. Otherwise it may contaminate the surrounding drinking water supplies, pollute creeks and rivers, and cause an unpleasant odor in your home. Storm water management is another thing to consider. Make sure that the storm water is channeled properly into sewers and does not cause any water logging issues.

I'm so happy to read this. This is the kind of info that needs to be given and not the random misinformation that is at the other blogs. Appreciate your sharing this best doc. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my friend were just preparing to do some research about this. We got a book from our area library but I think I learned better from this post. I'm very glad to see such magnificent info being shared freely out there...
